I rang the bell

On May 22nd, I rang the bell.

A chapter of triumph, completion, hope.

My final treatment was complete. We did it!

I walked out for the final time and the entire proton radiation team was there cheering, my family on FaceTime wooing and all, my mom’s raw joy, my loving friends. It was a beautiful moment. The fight was over, and my support system surrounded me. We were all in this together, a testament to what cancer cannot do.

The waiting room was like united by a shared battle. I remembered, just weeks ago, dreaming of my bell-ringing day. Now, it’s their turn, and my heart is full for their victory.

I rang the bell. The inscription says:

Ring out

Ring this bell three times well

The toll to clearly say

My treatments are done

It’s course has run

And I am on my way

The special song When I Get Where I’m Going has always been meaningful, but today, it feels like Grandpa Jim (who we always associate with the song “Chicken Fried”) is singing it to me. Cancer took a lot. There are happy tears, but also a fire to live and love without fear.

Six grueling weeks. But this day we reached the finish line and with hope that the cancer is gone. I will heal and in four months return for scans to evaluate. And this is my way forward…

Thank you for being apart of my journey, we ain’t done yet. Now it’s time to raise some money…

Kamden, I’m so proud of you and your positive attitude through this journey! You were a ray of sunshine for your radiation team each morning at 7:30 a.m. I’m sure they are missing you.
