So way back when (a whole year ago) during radiation treatment (wild right), I met Brent.
He’s not just any other lad.

By title, he’s a Patient Access Coordinator at the Mayo Clinic’s Proton Radiation Center. But off the record? He’s basically the Bass Pro of humans.
Somewhere in between here and there, I was mentioned to him that I liked fishing and was referred to his office. Next thing I knew, Brent was showing up with gear and daily updates like, “The bite’s hot on Zumbro today.” Literal fishing forecasts, customized for my very advanced technique of casting directly into trees. And then, cherry on top, he took me fishing at the end of treatment.

Of course, I had to hit him up when I came back to Mayo this month and yes, we went fishing again.

We did more casting than catching, but Nancy keeps us humble by accusing us of Photoshopping our fish pics anyway. (They’re just that impressive.) So we decided to fully lean in and stage a prank photo.

Stay tuned, next time, we’re making it official with a fishing tournament!
Honestly? I’ve even thought about starting a little organization right here in Rochester, fishing tours for people in treatment, with the proceeds going straight to cancer research. Sunshine, conversation, and a rod in your hand? It’s better medicine than you’d think.
One year, and still fishin.

Jokes aside, Brent turned cancer treatment into summer camp. Almost. I’m not saying I want to do it again… but if I had to, I’d want him on my team. I owe him a big one.
I’ll catch a few fish for you tonight, Brent, holding it down Hoosier style,
Kam
